The government has released a new scale of fees for quantity surveyors and architects.
The State Department for Public Works Principal Secretary Joel Arumonyang said the new scale will guide the remuneration of professionals in the field.
"The move will guide and ensure proper remuneration of these professionals and enhance professionalism," the PS said.
"Proper remuneration for quantity surveyors and architects will encourage self-regulation."
He spoke while giving the keynote address at the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) seminar for architects and quantity surveyors at a Nairobi hotel.
The CPD seminar whose theme was ‘Sustainable Urban Futures; Housing, Infrastructure and Industrialization,’ brought together players in the construction industry.
It sought to sensitise them on the evolution of cities and the potential for growth in emerging urban areas as well as share experiences of best practices in housing, infrastructure and industrialisation.
The seminar was organised by the Board of Registration for Architects and Quantity Surveyors, which is a regulatory institution domiciled in the State Department for Public Works under the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development.
Arumonyang urged the professionals to embrace sustainable developments in areas of housing, infrastructure and industrialisation in order to ensure the viability of cities.
He assured the professionals that the government’s Affordable Housing Programme and the establishment of economic zones in the counties will provide employment opportunities for architects and quantity surveyors.
