Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has announced plans to upgrade the technology system at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to facilitate better production of services.

On Tuesday, the CS held a meeting with DCI boss Mohammed Amin where discussions on the strategy for an Information Technology system upgrade were held.

Also, talks centred around how both DCI and the ministry can collaborate in clearing the backlog, to restore public confidence in our service delivery.

"We are committed to addressing the prevailing and unacceptable situation of unavailability of Police Clearance Documents (certificates of good conduct) at the DCI," Kindiki said.

The processing of Police Clearance Certificates also known as Certificates of Good Conduct at DCI headquarters resumed last Thursday after the duration of a system upgrade.

This was after the office of the Principal Criminal Registrar (PCR) had effected pragmatic measures to clear the backlog resulting from the temporary system hitches, which saw the unit resort to manual processing to address dire cases.

It was noted that the daily demand for certificates of good conduct is 11, 000 while the daily production is only 4, 500.

As a result, CS Kindiki stated the DCI technology will be upgraded to facilitate the processing of more certificates of good conduct.

"Going ahead, the task remains to clear the backlog and upgrade the system from the current Automated Palm and Fingerprint Identification System to the more efficient Multi Biometric Identification System," he said.

Internal Security and National Administration  Raymond Omollo who also attended the meeting stated that enhancing the Information Technology System at the DCI  will significantly expedite the processing of certificates of good conduct.

"We are committed to delivering a service that is both prompt and hassle-free for citizens, devoid of any avoidable delays," he added.
