Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has urged Kenyans to have faith in President William Ruto's plans.
In a statement on Saturday, the legislator said that Ruto will soon stabilize the economy.
"Kenyans should be Patient because President Ruto shall turn around the ailing economy of the country," Cherargei said.
The UDA Senator further stated that the people who are living in denial should know that Ruto is the fifth President of Kenya and nothing will change that.
His remarks came after Kenyans took to social media to express their anger after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Thursday significantly increased the prices of Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene by Ksh.16.96, Ksh.21.32 and Ksh.33.13, per litre, respectively.
A section of Kenyans accused Ruto and his government of overburdening them with higher fuel prices on top of new taxes occasioned by the passing of the controversial Finance Act that contained the infamous Housing Fund.
Authorities on Friday painted a gloomy picture over the possibility of pump prices going down in the near future.
Energy CS Davis Chirchir and Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority managing director Daniel Kiptoo told MPs fuel prices will be on an upward trajectory due to a combination of factors.
Appearing before National Assembly’s Energy Committee, the two told lawmakers that the spike in prices is global and that Kenya has one of the best prices in the region.
“We need to explain to Kenyans what is happening and what will happen in the next few months,” Chirchir stated.
Chirchir said his ministry is in talks with the National Treasury to reinstate the Fuel Stabilisation Fund.
