The Atheists in Kenya Society have called on the government to implement a one-child policy to control the population in Kenya.

In a statement seen by the Star, the organisation argued that a one-child policy will provide many advantages for future generations, both socially and economically.

"A decrease in the Kenyan population will lead to less competition among citizens for jobs and unemployment alleviated," the statement said.

The society further noted that studies indicate that Kenya has one of the highest levels of Children born out of wedlock in Africa.

The Atheists pointed out that implementing the one-child policy will not only promote family planning but also hold population growth under control and raise the quality of the Kenyan population.

"Too many births in Kenya is one reason why we are experiencing economic hardships and backwardness, "the statement stated.

The organisation further reiterated that the population should be controlled to combat poverty in Kenya.
