Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday met the Dutch delegates to Kenya on a trade mission on port development.
The CS said the development program is an effort by the Dutch Government to strengthen trade and investment relations between Kenya and the Netherlands.
"This mission comprises 17 Dutch companies with a strong interest in investing in maritime and port development, logistics, and the blue economy," he said.
Murkomen noted that the Government has initiated plans to expand and improve the airport infrastructure to facilitate efficient and effective passenger handling at all our airports.
"In the near future, the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport will be open to investment through PPP for expansion of its terminal capacity."
On the Lamu Port South Sudan Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor Programme, Murkomen noted that it intends to create a second strategic Corridor opening up the Northern parts of Kenya, connecting the country to the partner states of Ethiopia and South Sudan, and in the long term, creating a land bridge between the East and West coasts of Africa.
"LAPSSET Corridor Program is a significant enabler for enhanced regional trade and integration and unlocking regional potential through infrastructure development," he said.
The CS also said that rapid economic recovery in the country will depend on successful cooperation at the global level.
"I encourage you to use this forum to nurture partnerships and ideas that can have a real impact in fast-tracking economic recovery/development, whilst realizing the first-rate transport and infrastructure developments that our citizens demand," he said.
"Your participation and commitment are instrumental in transforming the nation into an economic powerhouse."
