Pastor Dorcas Rigathi on Monday launched a tree-planting program to help engage youths in rehabilitation.

Pastor Dorcas is also undertaking a Boy Child Programme run by the office of the Spouse of the Deputy President to help youths battling drug, alcohol and substance abuse.

"We are introducing agriculture to our young people and even showing them hope to do tree nurseries like the young boys who we have been bringing out of drugs and alcohol," she said.

Pastor Dorcas added that they will create many nurseries to reclaim riparian land and clean the rivers.

This comes after President William Ruto appealed to Kenyans to plant more trees in a bid to mitigate climate change.

On September 12, the Kenya Forest Service provided more than 18 million seedlings for planting countrywide during the current rainfall season.

KFS chief conservator of forests Alex Lemarkoko said it intends to continue raising more high-quality tree seedlings.

It received 4,680kgs of assorted tree seeds from the Kenya Forestry Research Institute.

"The seeds have already been distributed to KFS tree nurseries countrywide for production of more than 200 million seedlings for planting from the next tree planting season," Lemarkoko said.

He said besides the tree seedlings available in KFS tree nurseries, there are also tree seedlings available in private tree nurseries and within nurseries operated by other institutions.
