Thousands of ex-NYS officers show up for KDF recruitment

Thousands of former National Youth Service officers Monday showed up in their thousands at the Embakasi Garrison with the prospects of being absorbed into the Kenya Defence Forces.

KDF announced the recruitment on September 16 while releasing the shortlist of prospective Specialist Officer Cadets and Tradesmen and women.

Videos shared online showed a massive turnout of ex-NYS officers at the Embakasi Garrison to scramble for the limited slots available to join the disciplined forces.

Meanwhile, KDF has shortlisted 1,606 candidates to join the force as either tradesmen and women or specialist officers.

They include 347 individuals geared to serve as specialist officers and 1,259 prospective tradesmen and women.

The shortlist was also published in the Daily Nation and Standard newspapers on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

"The shortlisted candidates are required to report for interviews at respective recruitment centres and on dates as indicated on the advert," KDF said.

Interviews for tradesmen and women have been slated for September 25, 2023, starting 8am at the Embakasi Garrison in Nairobi.

The force said the recruitment of constables will take place on November 27, 2023. 

"All the candidates are reminded that the Kenya Defence Forces recruitment exercise is free to all eligible candidates. Members of the public are warned against engaging in recruitment malpractices and are encouraged to report any recruitment malpractices to the nearest police station or military camps or call hotline numbers 0726419709 or 0726419706," KDF said.
