A police officer was on Wednesday spotted harassing journalists who were covering the Lang'ata Cemetery workers' strike.
In a video seen by the Star, a female police officer was seen blocking Citizen TV reporter Mary Muoki from taking videos.
The journalists were heard complaining that they were working just like the police and asked why they were being roughed up.
"Tuko kazi an tuko live mbona unamgonga, sisi ni wananchi na tuko kazi nin nini? Hii yako ni harassment. Who are you? We pay you with our taxes, you shouldn't treat us like that. We are not going anywhere," the journalists were heard saying.
The officer responded "Unajua nitakugonga, umeskia?".
Other police officers at the scene tried to keep them calm saying they should keep their cool.
At that moment the police and one of the journalists were in a near fistfight.
Kenyans on social media reacted to the video saying such an act is unacceptable.
Activist Boniface Mwangi called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority and the Media Council of Kenya to take action on the police.
"Hey, IPOA_KE and Internal Affairs Unit please take action on this ignorant, and violent police officer. Media Council please start private prosecutions on anyone who attacks journalists while they’re working. Make it expensive for attackers," he said.
