Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu will launch the 2023 National Examination and Assessment Season.

The event will happen at the Kenya National Examinations Council headquarters at the New Mitihani House.

Several officials and stakeholders are expected to attend the event.

They will be sensitised about the proposed KCSE grading system.

They include; national government administration officials, county and subcounty education officials, and others from the Ministry of ICT.

National examinations to be administered this year include the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) for learners in Grade 6, the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.

Education PS Belio Kipsang said over 3.5 million candidates will sit for national examinations with KCPE candidates covering the most soaring number ever recorded in the country.

“Just under a million will sit for KCSE this year, 1.4 million for KCPE, and 1.2 million for KPSEA,” Kipsang said.

KCSE exams will start on October 23, and end on November 24.

The rehearsals will happen on October 19.

The rehearsal date for KCPE and KPSEA is set for Friday, October 27.

The exams for both levels will begin on Monday, October 30, and end on Wednesday, November 1.

The 2023 KCPE examinations will mark the end of the 8-4-4 system in primary schools.

According to the new CBC system, learners in primary schools will only be assessed through KPSEA starting next year which will allow them to automatically transit to Junior Secondary School.

Last Year, Knec announced that the KPSEA results will not be used for placement of learners in JSS.

They said the results will, however, be part of the process of monitoring the progress of learners.
