Transparency International Kenya (TI-Kenya) has emphasized the vital importance of ensuring that public digital platforms are not only accessible but also user-friendly and secure.

Executive director of TI Shelia Masinde underscored that having access to information is a fundamental pillar of functioning democracy.

“The right to access information is a cornerstone of democracy," Masinde said.

Masinde was speaking on Thursday morning during a stakeholder’s consultative, dedicated to deliberating on the right to access information.

The event coincided with the International Day for Universal Access to Information, which is commemorated globally on September 28 every year.

Masinde pointed out that the ability to access information plays a pivotal role in empowering citizens, enabling well-informed decision-making, and fostering active participation in the governance process.

“It empowers citizens, fosters informed decision-making, and enhances public participation in governance processes,” she said.

She further highlighted that TI-Kenya is actively collaborating with various stakeholders to address the digital divide, aiming to promote universal access to information.

“We will continue to collaborate to bridge the digital divide to promote universal access to information,” she highlighted.
