Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has heaped rare praise on the Opposition side, Azimio for stopping their protests.

Speaking in Isiolo county on Saturday, Gachagua said Azimio have become good people.

His remarks were in reference to a traditional whip he was gifted during the thanksgiving service of Petroleum Principal Secretary Mohamed Liban.

The DP said the whip would have been used on people who bring about chaos, but that will not be the case because the opposition stopped demonstrations.

He, however, insisted that he would not put the whip far just in case they return to protests.

Wakienda wachanganyikiwe tena warudi nitatoa hii kiboko,” Gachagua said.

This loosely translates to, “Sheikh has spoken and said it is wrong to cause chaos and destruction. The people we defeated used to cause chaos but nowadays they are good people and have stopped. Hon Kiraitu Murungi he fears this whip that I have been given. Its work is done those people are now good people, they stopped the chaos but I will not put it far from where I am. If they get confused again and return to chaos I will use this whip.”

Gachagua added that he prays that he will not have to use it.

The Azimio side stopped their weekly demonstrations after President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga agreed to have dialogue, through the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO).

The talks are ongoing and the Committee has been collecting views from various groups on how to address the issues raised for discussions.

Nadco sits at the Bomas of Kenya and has been holding weekly talks.
