Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri to also serve as the acting Bishop of Embu.
This follows the transfer of Bishop Paul Kariuki who was moved to the newly created Diocese in Wote.
Muheria will serve Embu Diocese as its administrator until a Bishop is appointed.
Speaking during the installation of Bishop Kariuki on Saturday in Wote, Pope Francis' representative in Kenya and South Sudan Hubertus Maria Van Megen said the process of finding a bishop for Embu has already begun.
"We are already starting the process of finding a new bishop for the Diocese of Embu, so any priest who feels called to be a bishop can apply," he said.
"For the time being, the Holy Father has appointed an apostolic administrator in the person of the Archbishop."
Muheria has previously served as the Bishop of the Diocese of Embu.
Before his appointment as Wote Bishop, Kariuki had served Embu in the same capacity for over 14 years.
