Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has decried that President William Ruto has toured Nyanza region many times more than in his own backyard.

Speaking on Friday during the thanksgiving of MP Elisha Odhiambo, the Senator said even though they voted for the president, he has been in his hometown fewer times.

"Wacha nifungue roho yangu niseme ukweli, kule kwetu sisi tulipigia rais kura lakini kule nyumbani tangu uchaguzi nimemuona mara moja peke lakini hapa Siaya nimekuja na yeye mara tatu

(Let me open up and say the truth, in our region we voted for the president but since the election, he has only visited us once but I have accompanied him to Siaya three times).

The President is in Nyanza for a four-day development tour in Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya and Migori counties.

Nyanza region is perceived to be the opposition chief Raila Odinga's Luo Nyanza heartland.

This would be the second major and extensive development tour of the four Luo Nyanza counties since his election last year.

The first of such a high-level tour was in January when he traversed Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay and Siaya counties, commissioning development projects.

Ruto has prioritised bringing down the cost of living, eradicating hunger and job creation, expanding the tax base, improving the foreign exchange balance, and promoting inclusive growth through interventions in five core sectors.

These sectors include agriculture, MSME development, housing and settlement, universal health coverage and the Digital superhighway and creative economy.

In Kisumu, Ruto will launch the groundbreaking of the Kabonyo Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Center of Excellence in Nyando.

The project is worth Sh1 billion and is aimed at enhancing food security, innovation, and employment in Fisheries and Aquaculture, benefiting thousands and contributing significantly to the Kenyan economy.

In Siaya County, the President will launch the upgrading to the Bitumen standard of the 27km Bondo- Uyawi-Kibanga-Liunda Road and also launch a digital laboratory at Mutumbu Technical Training Institute.

While in Homa Bay County, the President will spearhead the launch of the construction of the 53 km Mfangano Island Ring Road and the upgrading to the Bitumen standard of the 74km Mbita- Sindo-Kiabuya-Sori Road.

In Migori County, the President will launch the Last Mile water connectivity project at Kegonga, Kuria East, ensuring improved access to clean water and spearhead the commissioning of a tuition block at Rongo University.

The President has been making county tours around the country to launch projects.
