Meru Gospel Ministers on Friday held peace prayers at Governor Kawira Mwangaza's home.

The prayer meeting came amid plans by a section of Meru ward representatives to impeach the first-term county governor.

At least 33 MCAs from the Meru County Assembly vowed to support the impeachment motion against Mwangaza.

The governor who got elected on an Independent ticket is staring at the risk of a second impeachment in just 10 months.

Senate saved Mwangaza from being removed from office on December 30, 2022 saying the grounds MCAs raised then were not watertight.

The new impeachment motion is being drafted and will be tabled in the assembly soon.

In a video shared on Facebook, Meru County Gospel Ministers chairman Kiogora Magambo said the clergy does not support the impeachment of the governor.

He urged MCAs to desist from bringing up such motions and instead embrace dialogue.

"We want to ask President William Ruto to know that Meru is part of Kenya and we voted for him and his deputy in big numbers. The Meru county politicians' call was not part of our opinion as we were not consulted," Bishop Kiogora said.

He said the clergy does not know what the agenda the MCAs and other politicians have and urged them to sit together with religious leaders and discuss the way forward.

The Gospel ministers also asked the Meru County Assembly to take a firm stand and not pass the ouster motion and to never to be coerced to withdraw their support for the governor.

"We know political parties are pushing our MCAs to withdraw support. We now call upon them to retract and make a good decision for a better Meru," Bishop Kigora added.

He urged Meru elected leaders to stop dividing the Meru community into sub-tribes.
