Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba now claims that Mt Kenya is being sidelined in the ongoing bipartisan talks.

In a video seen by the Star, Wamuchomba said when different parties were presenting their proposals to the National Dialogue Committee, no one from Mt Kenya was given a chance to submit any proposal.

"All those who went to the National Dialogue Committee to take proposals, they came from all parts of Kenya but none was from Mt Kenya, does that mean we don't have problems?"

She went on to say Mt Kenya will not benefit from anything if the results of the talk lead to a handshake between President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga which is seemingly bound to happen.

According to the MP, Ruto is currently walking on the feet of his predecessor, former President Uhuru Kenyatta that led to a handshake with Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

She alleged that President Ruto has been economical with details of the ongoing bipartisan talks with the Opposition.

The Githunguri MP noted that before Uhuru's handshake with Raila, they kept asking for details of what they had agreed on but nothing was forthcoming. She said that is the same spot they are currently in with President Ruto.

"We kept asking Uhuru to give us more details of their talks with Raila and just like President Ruto, he kept saying he would not allow Raila into his administration. That is the route Ruto is taking us," she said.

The MP questioned why Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was left out of the President's Nyanza tour. Ruto had a four-day working tour of the Opposition stronghold last week.

Wamuchomba who was elected on a UDA ticket has turned out to be one of the 'rebel' MPs from within the ruling party. She was vocal in her opposition to the Finance Bill, 2023.

The MP has also been vocal about calling out the Kenya Kwanza administration over the high cost of living.

Wamuchomba's remarks come amidst talks of a rift between the President and his deputy. The two, however, maintain that all is well between them.

In a recent interview, with Inooro FM, Gachagua dispelled speculations pointing to strained relations.

The DP said he speaks with the Head of State on a daily basis and termed their relationship as top-notch.

"President William Ruto and I are joined at the hip. We talk on a daily basis. My relationship with the President is top-notch," Gachagua said.

Gachagua said that the President had mandated him with a great responsibility he (Ruto) understands his output.

He asked Kenyans to stop reading too much into the assignment of government functions.
