A man has lost eight cattle in a stock theft incident at Matungulu, Machakos County.

The cattle belonging to Francis Muinde, a resident of Mutali village in Matungulu Subcounty, were stolen on the night of October 11, 2023.

Matungulu Subcounty police commander Peter Omondi said the matter was reported at KBC police station as a stock theft incident.

“Francis Muinde’s heard of cattle were stolen in the night of October 11, 2023 at his unguarded bama. They were tracked and one recovered, seven of the animals are still at large,” Omondi told the Star on Friday.

Omondi said the animal was recovered by officers from KBC police station together with area community policing members. No arrest had been made by press time.

“No arrest so far, the matter is still under active investigations,” Omondi said.

Muinde said he was shocked to wake up on Thursday only to find his cattle boma empty.

“The livestock was only my source of livelihood. The theft has left me with a big blow,” Muinde told reporters at his cattle boma where the animals were stolen from.

He urged area security agencies to do whatever they could to recover the remaining animals and also arrest the thieves behind the incident.

“I urge the police to ensure that no stone is left unturned in search of the thieves for them to be arrested. The police should intensify night patrols because the thieves are using a vehicle in which they load and transport the animals. That’s why they are able to escape faster from scenes of thefts,” Muinde said.

Muinde said he had lost 60 goats in a similar incident a few months ago and none was recovered hence still counting losses.

He was yet to recover from the goats’ theft when the thieves struck his cattle boma again.
