Opposition leader Raila Odinga has condemned an incident where he was denied a chance to speak during the Turkana Tourism and Cultural Festival.

The Azimio leader who spoke at the Lodwar Airstrip after leaving the event blamed his woes on a senior county leader.

"I lead a political party and when I come people want me to talk. It's stupidity to deny me an opportunity to speak to people," he said.

The ODM leader said he enjoys a lot of support and he doesn't need anybody's invitation to come to Turkana which is part of Kenya.

"This region has voted for me overwhelmingly, we have MCAs, MPs and Governor himself is a member of ODM," he said.

Raila was accompanied by Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, George Wajackoyah, Jeremiah Kioni, Godfrey Osotsi, Caleb Amis, Peter Munya, Mwangi Wa Iria and Carol Karugu former Deputy Governor of Nyeri.

He assured his supporters that he will go back to Turkana soon for a political rally.

Chaos erupted at the event when the programme was prolonged with the traditional dances taking too long before the start of speeches.

Supporters of Raila present started to chant demanding that Raila speaks leading to a clash with supporters of Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai at the event.

Minority leader in the Turkana County Assembly, Samuel Lomodo, invited MCAs to speak but the Azimio supporters felt it was a plot to deny Raila and his team time to address the crowd.

Security officers at the event, however, managed to calm down the charged crowds.

Turkana Central MP Joseph Namuar took the microphone and announced that visitors from Nairobi should leave in an apparent reference to Raila and his entourage. Raila left.
