Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Monday presided over the launch of the National Defence University-Kenya Journal.

The event which took place at the National Defence University, brought together the Kenya Defence Family as they launched the second issue of the journal.

As a proud Defence CS, Duale said that academic research serves as the intellectual foundation upon which national security policies and strategies are built.

"The journal informs decision-makers, defence planners, and intelligence agencies with critical insights, innovative solutions, and a deeper understanding of emerging threats and challenges," he said.

The CS noted that the publications in the Journal are derived from diverse professions which together contribute to national security and prosperity.

Duale said that sharing these well-researched scholarly articles will be useful to the Ministry and the Government at large to develop policies and strategies to guarantee peace and security for national development.

"The Journal is one piece of evidence that the University is living up to what it was established to undertake, which is primarily to bridge the gap in the strategic defence and security studies as well as conduct research and innovation in the fields of security and strategy to enhance national security and development," he added.

He emphasized that National security and development are joined at the hip since the Kenya Kwanza government's agenda on development can only be achieved in a peaceful society where national security plays a pivotal role.

In addition, Duale pledged that his Ministry would support the National Defence University to execute its mandate.

"My ministry pledges support, more so to conduct research and proffer innovative solutions to address the challenges our forces face in the operation areas and support the national development agenda," he said.

Also present during the launch were the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla, the Vice Chief of Defence Forces (VCDF) Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi, Service Commanders, NDU-K Vice Chancellor Major General Said Farah among other senior officials at the University and the military.

The National Defence University-Kenya was inaugurated on August 3, 2022, in an event presided over by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
