Opposition leader Raila Odinga has opened up on why he never makes a big deal out of political betrayals by people he has helped climb the political ladder.

Speaking on Tuesday, Raila said betrayal is a usual thing and it is human nature.

He said that it is also the oldest sin practiced today and it started with Adam.

"You see betrayal is human nature. Jesus was betrayed. It is a very old sin. It started with the first human being, even Adam was betrayed," Raila said.

The former Prime Minister was responding to questions from a section of youths who had met him on Tuesday.

One of the youths asked how the Azimio leader is able to accommodate people who have defected from his party despite him helping them win seats. He also sought to know where Raila get such a big heart from.

The Azimio leader explained that most of them do it out of greed but life has taught him that they always come and go.

He, however, said that is not without them learning their lessons.

"Sometimes its because of greed. Somebody thinks that side is better than the other side and he can get better opportunities but what I have learnt in life is that they go and eventually just come back here."

"Ni kama story ya mbwa aliyebeba nyama kwa kinywa chake akaenda juu ya daraja anaangalia anaona kivuli chake anafikiria yule mbwa amebeba nyama kubwa kuliko yake akarusha hii kuenda kung'ang'ana na ile akajipata ako na mamba kwenye maji. Those are usual things," Raila said.

This loosely translates to, "It's like the story of a dog that carried meat on its mouth, went and stood on a bridge and it saw its shadow in water and thought the other dog had a bigger chunk of meat. It threw the meat and went for the meat the other dog (its shadow) had only to find itself with crocodiles."

This comes amidst defections from Azimio including from leaders elected on Raila party, ODM.

Several elected leaders have pledged loyalty to President William Ruto, insisting that they only seek development from the president.

Despite these defections, including from previous years, Raila has always remained cordial with most of the leaders who have worked with him, despite them being on opposing sides sometimes.
