Kenya Power explains why Kenyans are unable to buy tokens

Kenyans whose prepaid electricity tokens are set to expire on Thursday may face challenges renewing their power supply, as Kenya Power has reported issues with the prepaid system.

The system is used to purchase electricity tokens.

"We are experiencing a hitch on the prepaid system which is affecting the generation of electricity tokens," the notice read.

Kenya Power however said that they are working to restore normalcy within the shortest time possible.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused."

The announcement comes a few hours after Kenya Power listed three counties that will on Thursday experience outage, following maintenance. 

In a statement, the company said the blackout will be experienced from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

In Makueni County, the whole of Kathonzweni will experience interruptions. 

The areas are; Makueni Boys and Girls', Governor's offices, Wote Huduma Center, County Assembly, Wote Technical Training Institution, Nyunzu, ENI Kenya Malavani, Unoa S/Center, and Sinai. 

Others are, Kwa Kathoka and adjacent areas. 

Parts of Mombasa Road including Sultan Town, Sultan Police, Holy Ghost Schools, Kalimbini, Nokomis, Salama, Enzai, Kima, Kiu, Kavatanzou, Kiongwani and Kwothithu will also experience a blackout. 

In West Pokot County, areas in Ortum, Sina, Marich Pass, Lomut, Sarmach Kainuk, Sigor, and adjacent areas will have power outages. 

While in Kisumu County, Kenya power listed 15 areas that will be affected on Thursday. 

The areas are; Masogo, Nyakoko, Amilo, Kasongo, Onyalobiro, Ombeyi, Ruutek, Kambara, Chemursoi, Kabar, Kadongo, Kolal, Keyo, Wagogni, Ramula, and adjucent areas.
