Thousands of people have thronged in Kericho Green stadium ready for the Mashujaa day celebrations.
This is despite the cold and rains being witnessed in the area.
The crowds started to pour into the stadium as early as 1 am.
However, a stampede was witnessed at the entrance of Gate C where people ended up being injured.
Following the incident, police moved to intervene in the incident and create order at the gates.
It was however, made difficult owing to the muddy pavements outside the stadium that were occasioned by the heavy downpour on Thursday evening.
The Star was unable to identify the exact number of people injured.
However, those injured were rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital.
The 10,000-seater Kericho Green Stadium was full by 7 am.
On Thursday, Sports CS Ababu Namwamba officially received the stadium from the contractor after successful reconstruction which took two months.
The stadium has been upgraded to a 10,000-seater capacity stadium with two VIP lounges, two changing rooms, terraces and paved parking.
The Stadium will also host the Mashujaa Day Cup match between AFC Leopards and Kericho Zoo FC.
Thereafter Kericho Green Stadium will be available for training and diverse games, both county and national level.
Last year , the celebrations were held in Nairobi's Uhuru Gardens.
The celebrations marked the first heroes' day under President William Ruto's administration.
