Windows in Nyanza now have an opportunity to live dignified lives through the Nyanza Widows Empowerment programme which is dedicated to boosting their confidence and self-worth.
The initiative coordinated by Internal Security PS Raymond Omollo focuses on equipping the women with essential skills and knowledge to overcome life’s challenges.
PS Omollo has been instrumental in developing social development programmes in Nyanza that uplift widows and children within the community.
Besides transforming their own lives, the programme also serves as a catalyst for the women to become drivers of positive change within their communities.
On Sunday, Victor Ayugi inaugurated a new residence for Margaret Awuor on behalf of the PS.
Awuor is a widow from Seme constituency in the Kanyadwera area.
Ayugi expressed happiness in observing the progress and mentioned that Awuor would now have a stable place to call home.
He emphasised the importance of reducing teenage pregnancies and ensuring girls' access to education.
Ayugi further reiterated the idea that government support is available, and encouraged widows' groups to work with the government to benefit from it.
This, he said, underscores the need to prioritise development in the region.
Widows in the region who have established investment groups shared their happiness in forming the groups, which have significantly improved their daily lives and allowed them to invest in their families’ futures.
