Revealed: What Ruto will discuss with King Charles III

President William Ruto on Monday held a series of meetings with members of the diplomatic corps.

The President met the British High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan ahead of King Charles III and Queen Camilla's State Visit next week.

Ruto is expected to hold bilateral talks with the King focusing on climate action, biodiversity, sustainable urban development, youth, technology and innovation and women empowerment.

Ruto said key projects expected to be discussed include the Sh425 billion Grand High Falls Dam project, the Sh12.5 billion Menengai Geothermal project and the Sh7.5 billion Malindi Solar Expansion project.

Others are the Sh11.5 billion Nairobi Railway City project, the Sh31 United Green investment and the recruitment of Kenyan Nurses to the United Kingdom.

The King and President Ruto will also seek to enhance trade volumes between the two countries.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla will from October 31 to November 3, 2023, be in Kenya for an official state visit. 

There will be activities lined up for the two leaders for the four days they will be in the country. 

According to a statement released on October 11, the King and Queen will visit Nairobi County, Mombasa County and surrounding areas.

Upon arrival, their Majesties will be treated to a ceremonial welcome at the State House.

Later, they will each attend bilateral meetings, separately.

The King will be with Ruto while the Queen with First Lady Rachel Ruto.

After their separate meetings, Ruto will host a State Banquet at State House, Nairobi.

"Their Majesties’ programme will reflect how Kenya and the United Kingdom are working together, notably to boost mutual prosperity, tackle climate change, promote youth opportunity and employment, advance sustainable development and create a more stable and secure region," the statement read.
