Kisii Woman Rep Borice Donya Aburi on Tuesday decried the low allocations to the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

She spoke of the insufficiency of fund to help empower women across the country against the backdrop of efforts being done to leverage women.

"Compared to other elected leader, the Sh6 million we get is relatively little to help push this agenda forward," she said.

Women, she said, play a pivotal role in development and thus the need to constantly seek avenues to empower them.

NGAAF is run by Woman Representatives to better the lives of the vulnerable and marginalised groups.

Aburi was speaking at her Kisii offices during the issuance of cheques to various vulnerable groups.

At least 50 groups were handed cheques.

"To develop the country, we should be more deliberate in empowering our women," Aburi said.

She also flagged off water tanks to various schools in the county.

At least 5,000 students will benefit from the tanks through water harvesting, she said.

Meanwhile, Nyamira Woman Rep Jerusha Momanyi on Monday raised concern over the rise of gender-based violence in the region.

"The vice has become rampant and it is time we acted to stem it  in our homes," she said.

She asked chiefs to especially report those circumcising girls in the villages.
