The court of appeal declined to stop the Meru county assembly from debating the impeachment of Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza.

The appeal court said it will rule on the matter on Friday.

This happened as Lawyer Danston Omari who is representing Mwangaza was granted two hours by  Meru County Assembly Speaker Ayub Bundi to defend the Governor from impeachment.

"Mr Omari welcome to the chambers and let me allow you time to be heard. We cannot deny you the chance to be heard," Bundi said.

Omar said he will be leading a team of lawyers in defending Governor Mwangaza against the planned ouster motion.

"I will be leading the battery of lawyers, the team of six and myself. We will represent the governor against accusations," Omari said.

Mwangaza had moved to court to stop her planned impeachment.

Members of the County Assembly on Tuesday retreated away from Cameras to write a report after a tense public participation exercise conducted on Monday on the impeachment motion.

Kawira is allegedly accused of gross misconduct, misappropriation of county funds and usurpation of the law and the constitution among other allegations.

Last year, Meru MCAs made a similar move but hit a snag after the Senate saved her from ouster on December 30.

This was after 67 of the 69 MCAs that were present in the Meru County Assembly impeached her on December 14 on five grounds including abuse of office just 64 days after she assumed office.

Mwangaza pleaded not guilty to all charges.
