Kuria: NYS training to be a must before getting government job

Ministry of Public Service and Delivery Management CS Moses Kuria has said all government employees will be required to attend the National Youth Service training before being absorbed.

Speaking while unveiling the NYS re-engineering programme in Nairobi, Kuria announced six measures that NYS will take up to better their services.

"All new government employees will be required to attend NYS training before being absorbed into public service," Kuria said.

He said there will be an establishment of the National Youth Service Enterprises.

He said the company will be competitively bidding for both national, county and private sector tenders.

The CS added that NYS will have the establishment of a call centre under the Pasha Programme to be domiciled at NYS Headquarters.

The NYS call centre will handle feedback and complaints about public service delivery.

He said the ministry will identify employment opportunities in the government, and private sector as well as employment opportunities outside Kenya for NYS graduates.

"Guards manning government offices and buildings must be drawn from NYS to help in their absorption," Kuria added.

He said that Public Service will establish more than 800 Huduma Centres across the country, which will be run by officers drawn from NYS.

The CS on Wednesday unveiled the NYS Reengineering program during his inaugural visit to the National Youth Service in Ruaraka.

He announced that as part of the Kenya Kwanza Government, his priority is to ensure that public servants prioritize their jobs.

Kuria said it was important for NYS to collaborate with the Kenya School of Government to improve the legal system.

Kuria noted that the young men and women in the NYS would eventually replace the elderly in various roles.

The CS announced that, in partnership with the National Police Service, 3,000 officers would be recruited from NYS by the end of the year, and an additional 1500 would be employed in KWS.

Furthermore, he approved the recruitment of 15,000 individuals for the police force in the next cycle, with the condition that they pass through NYS to be eligible for the program.
