Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has asked Kenyans to pray for her ahead of her impeachment debate on Wednesday.'

In a statement on her social media accounts, the governor also asked people to pray for Meru County.

"Please pray for our County of Meru. Please pray for me, pray for justice," Mwangaza said.

The Court of Appeal in Nyeri is also set to make a determination on her pleas all at the same time.

Members of the County Assembly on Tuesday retreated away from Cameras to write a report after a tense public participation exercise conducted on Monday on the impeachment motion.

Kawira is allegedly accused of gross misconduct, misappropriation of county funds and usurpation of the law and the constitution among other allegations.

Last year, Meru MCAs made a similar move but hit a snag after the Senate saved her from ouster on December 30.

This was after 67 of the 69 MCAs that were present in the Meru County Assembly impeached her on December 14 on five grounds including abuse of office just 64 days after she assumed office.

Mwangaza pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The 11-member Senate special committee chaired by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale said none of the 62 allegations levelled against her were substantiated.

However, new disputes have arisen between Mwangaza and her deputy, Isaac Mutuma, with legislators.
