The list of Eight Nandi CEC members quashed by an Eldoret court has been tabled at the county assembly for vetting.

Governor Stephen Sang handed the list to the assembly by county government and communicated to the county representatives by speaker Philemon Cheruiyot Meli.

The list included; Hillary Serem-Finance and Economic Planning, Ruth Koech-Health, Drice Kibet Rono-Transport, Dr. Kiplimo Agriculture, Philemon Kiptoo Bureti-Lands, water and Environment.

Others were; Scolastica Tuwei-Education and Vocational training, Alfred Lagat-Trade, Investments and Isaiah Keter-administration and communication.

The court had directed Governor Sang to advertise the position before shortlisting them and subsequently sending their names to the assembly for vetting.

Assembly speaker Philemon Meli said the assembly will convene appointments and a vetting committee to ensure that the high court order was implemented to the letter.

However, in a statement, the governor said there were no constitutional requirements or laws that demand governors to advertise the vacant positions of CECM hence the reason for sending the 8 names for vetting to the assembly.

The Eight previously held the same positions, however, five of them had not been subjected to vetting after serving as CECM in Governor Sang’s first government.

Three, Hillary Serem-Finance, Isaiah Keter and Scolastica Tuwei were vetted by the assembly’s vetting and appointments committee in which Speaker Cheruiyot Meli is the chairman.

A week ago, the Eldoret high court quashed the appointment of the 8 CECM because some of them were not subjected to vetting as required by law.

Sang argued that they were not subject to re-vetting of the five because they had been vetted during his first term.

He borrowed from former president Uhuru Kenyatta whose reappointed CSs were not vetted.

Nandi assembly is expected to issue a public notice seeking information from the public and other agencies on the 8 proposed CECM.

Nandi county government has now a single CECM in office with Sang asking for a speedy process to enable him to implement his development program.

The list is expected to be cleared since a majority of the county representatives have declared support for the list tabled before them.

Deputy speaker Wilson Sang had earlier issued a personal statement throwing his support behind the governor saying they had no time “to engage in cheap politics”.
