Taita Taveta will soon have a rise in revenue collection if the county gets half of the revenue generated from game parks as proposed by President William Ruto on Friday.
" Earlier, there were no plans on how revenue can be shared between the county and national government. But now we have plans where the county will hake 50 per cent and my government will take the other half," he said.
"We are working on a program that the revenue from the parks will be shared equally so that the county can benefit from it too."
In August, the President announced plans by the government to remit 50 per cent of revenue generated from national parks to counties in which the conservancies are situated.
Ruto noted that the national and devolved governments will share the returns equally since host counties play an integral role in ensuring the success of the conservancies.
He said that Kenyans who have ceded parts of their land to the government for the purpose of establishing the game reserves will particularly benefit from the 50-50 split.
“I have ordered the Ministry of Tourism to ensure that 50 per cent of revenues generated from national parks should be ceded to the county governments in which the conservancies are located,” Ruto said
“The county governments should make sure that money goes to benefit the communities that play host to national parks."
