There was confusion on Monday when a contingent of heavily armed General Service Unit officers surrounded Kisii Governor Simba Arati's office.
The officers, however, did not hinder the governor and his team from accessing the office located at the Gusii Stadium when he arrived for work on Monday.
The governor accessed his stadium office with no hitch. He arrived and greeted the officers who did not stop him with his team
Police authorities said the officers have been dispatched to the county to crack down on rogue bodaboda riders allegedly engaged in criminal activities.
However, addressing the press at the stadium, Arati claimed that he was under intimidation.
He said the presence of the officers is part of the wider plan to distabilise his administration, warning of a plot to impeach him.
"I heard that money is being collected around to dish Sh500,000 each to the MCAs to impeach me... Pray for me.... I have seen dark ominous clouds gathering. This war is going to be long," the governor said.
The governor claimed that he had also received intelligence that officers were planning a raid at his rural Motonto home in Bobasi Constituency.
"Don't come to my residence at night, come in the daytime, I don't want you to come and plant guns in my house so that you can begin incriminating me," Arati said.
Arati was Monday set to address the media over the drama and the officers have since been ordered to leave.
However, according to the police the special security squad is camping in Kisii to pursue bodaboda gangs that have been reprising residents.
The squad is backed by the GSU who have been helping in the pursuit of the gangs accused of among others extortion and robbery.
The team closed an office belonging to the operators in the town as part of the probe into the saga.
Police said the officers have been in the area for almost a week forcing some of the operators to go underground..
The officers had earlier raided another office belonging to the operators behind the county assembly.
The operators had been accused of even targeting others not known to them for torture and extortion.
Kisii is among regions affected by criminal gangs that have become powerful. Sungusungu is among the gangs that are on target.
