The 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census (KPHC) enumerated the country’s population at 47.6 million with a growth rate of 2.3 per cent, down from 2.9 per cent recorded in 2009.
Children below the age of 15 were 39 percent of the total population in 2019, down from 43 per cent in 2009.
Between 2009 and 2019, the proportion of people in the working ages (15-64 years) increased from 53 to 57 per cent, while the proportion of older people (60+ years) increased from 5 to 5.8per cent.
In 2009, the total dependency ratio for Kenya was 87 dependents supported by 100 persons in the working age.
