A body belonging to a KPSEA candidate has been retrieved from a river in Masinga, Machakos County.

Kelvin Muema Mueni’s body was found floating in River Thika in Ikalakala, Masinga sub-county on Monday.

Eastern regional police commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan said the body is of the class six learner at Isyokoni Primary School.

“It was reported by Musyemi Wambua today at around 2.00 pm that he found the body of his grandchild namely Mwema Mueni, a class six pupil at Isyokoni primary school who went missing on October 28, 2023, in River Thika,” Napeiyan told the Star hours after the incident.

The boy had gone missing last Friday. A missing person incident report was made at Ekalakala police station on the same day.

The deceased is said to have left school at around 3.00pm on the same day he was reported missing.

He went home, changed his clothing, and left for an unknown place.

The deceased’s family later made a report of a missing person.

Another report of a drowning incident was made at the police station after the body was discovered and retrieved.

Napeiyan said police were informed and area OCS visited the scene.

“They conducted a search within the locality which led to the recovery of the deceased’s body floating in the river. The scene was documented and the body was removed and taken to Mbaku mortuary awaiting an autopsy,” Napeiyan said.

He said preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was hit with a blunt object and his body dumped into the river.

Masinga DCI has launched investigations into the incident.
