Police in Kiambu have arrested a woman who is said to have beaten her 8-year-old daughter to death on Monday.
The incident is said to have happened at Turitu village in Kiambu.
The woman known as Fena, a mother of three, is said to have beaten her daughter, a grade one pupil at Loreto primary school, with an electric wire.
According to Aggrey Kidake, a security guard, he came from work and found the little girl in his home sleeping alongside his children.
It is alleged that she often runs away from home because her mother always beats her.
Kidake said that he took the girl back to her house and left.
At around 12 midday, the woman called him to help her take her daughter to the hospital.
"I was called by the girl's mother that her daughter is dying and should hurry up and take her to hospital as she has fallen," Kidake said.
He said that when he arrived at the house he found that the girl had soiled herself. Her clothes had blood on them and was asking for water.
"I rushed the girl to Kiambu level five hospital with a motorbike and the girl was pronounced dead upon arrival," he said.
He added that the doctors asked what had happened but the woman insisted that she fell.
After she was taken to the morgue, the girl was found to have multiple bruises on her body.
"After the mortuary attendants examined the body of the girl they saw that the girl had multiple bruises on her body and they insisted that it is a police case and the woman should report to the police," he said.
He said that the woman panicked when she saw that the matter had become a police case.
"All along the woman was calm but when she heard the matter had become a police matter, she panicked asking me whether she should tell the truth," he said.
Elizabeth Nyambura a college student and immediate neighbour said that she was woken up by the commotion of the woman beating up her child.
"The woman beats her daughter almost every day. Today I was woken up by the woman beating up her again after she was brought back by the neighbour," she said.
She said by the time she finished preparing herself to go to school, the woman was locked in her house with the sounds of the girl being beaten.
"As neighbours, we could do nothing since the girl is usually beaten up by the mother who when asked hurls insulting words at us and tells us to mind our business," she said.
The woman is said to have also broken the legs of her son while young.
Her other son who is heading to form four had to be taken to a children's home where he lives up to date because of her alleged beatings.
Lucy Njoki the grandmother of the deceased said that the woman broke up with her son who is the father of the girl.
She said that the woman was beating him and they could no longer stay together.
"I got a phone call from a neighbour that Fena has beaten her daughter very badly and has been taken to the hospital where she has been pronounced dead," Njoki said.
Njoki said that she did not know the predicament of her granddaughter since the woman left long ago to stay far away from them.
The woman is said to have been reported severally to authorities.
The school administration is said to have also summoned her severally over the abuse of the girl.
