Public Service CS Moses Kuria was a happy man on Wednesday night after the Senate cleared Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza of all her impeachment charges.

Kuria joined women leaders outside Parliament in celebrating the Mwangaza's impeachment survival.

The CS showed solidarity with Mwangaza by holding her hand as women leaders showered praises on the governor.

"The devil wins battles. The Lord wins the war," Kuria said in a statement on his X handle.

The CS had earlier demonstrated his support towards Mwangaza even before her eleventh hour at the Senate.

On his X page,  Kuria had earlier said that the issues presented against Meru Governor Mwangaza don't warrant an impeachment.

The Senate acquitted Governor Mwangaza of all seven charges brought up against her by the Meru county assembly.

The Senate which had to extend their sittings late into the night on Wednesday dismissed all the charges against Mwangaza, giving her a new lease of life in the county leadership.

She faced charges of misappropriation and misuse of resources, nepotism, bullying, illegal appointments, contempt of court, and naming a road after her husband illegally.

Governor Mwangaza denied all the charges and put up a spirited defence saying she was being victimised as a woman leader.

As Speaker of the Senate Amason Kingi was reading out the final verdict, an emotional governor covered her face with her hand as she was cleared of all the charges.

"The result of the division indicates the Senate has not upheld any of the charges. Therefore, the Senate has failed to remove the governor by impeachment. The governor accordingly continues to hold office," Kingi said.

After being cleared of the impeachment charges, Governor Mwangaza penned down a thank you message on her social media account and also thanked God for her triumph

"Glory be to God. Meru has won," she said on her Facebook account.
