Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said the government has put up a raft of measures to address the ongoing El Nino rains.
Speaking on Friday, the DP said through the National Emergency Response Committee, the government and other partners have taken measures to reduce the negative impact of the rains.
He said the government has deployed aircraft for evacuation of the marooned families to safe grounds.
"We are delivering the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations to areas disconnected due to damaged roads," he said.
"In working with our development partners, counties and other key agencies, we are distributing food (Maize, rice, beans and cooking oil)and non-food items to tens of families affected to reduce their suffering."
The DP said the country has activated multi-agency teams and mobilised technical and financial resources for easier response.
He added that the Emergency Response Committee is coordinating a consolidated approach for efficiency and effective action to prevent duplication of the response as well as ensuring no place or person is left behind.
The DP said the state is also supplying safe, clean water and addressing other sanitation concerns in various rescue centres.
"We are monitoring the progress of the rain patterns for measures of averting catastrophic outcomes, The Ministries of Health and Agriculture (animal diseases) are also on the ground monitoring the situation to prevent possible outbreaks of diseases," he said.
The government has put up mobile health facilities where infrastructure has been destroyed or marooned.
He said the Kenya Defence Forces is running an operation centre at the headquarters.
The Ministry of Interior and National Administration is providing security response around the clock.
The DP said the Ministry of Roads and Transport is undertaking emergency repair and rehabilitation of roads to improve access.
He said they are also unclogging waterways and other drainage systems.
"With weather projections pointing to possible prolonged rains up to the First Quarter of 2024, we are keen on sharing safety messaging, especially sensitisation of communities living in lowlands and landslide-prone areas to evacuate to safer grounds," he said.
Gachagua said the country is also sharing distress call numbers with the public to ensure people report and ask for swift assistance in case of emergencies.
He called on the media to raise awareness of the trends and risks to avert loss of lives and livelihoods.
