Three people who allegedly defrauded a woman Sh16.5 million have been charged at a Kibera Law court.

The three Nancy Njeri Kamau, Alias Nelly Mbogo, Lucy Wangui Muturi alias Judy, and Joseph Karanaja Macharia alias Kareithii were charged before Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Samson Temu where they denied the charges.

The same court issued a warrant of arrest against another suspect who failed to turn up in court.

The court heard that the accused persons allegedly defrauded Jackline Wambui Njeru of the said amount after promising to help her remove a seal imprinted on USD 1,800,000.

They allegedly said they were in a position to procure an Anti-terror certificate from the UN Board.

The court heard that they told the woman to pay for the above services, clear a consignment from South Sudan purportedly containing USD 1,800,000, and clear KRA tax for the same consignment.

They jointly denied the charges and court prosecutor Samson Ng'etich urged the court to grant them tough bond terms.

Before they were released on bond, the prosecution had objected to their release saying that they were a flight risk.

The court released them on Sh1 million bond with an alternative cash bail of Sh 350,000.

The matter will be mentioned later this month for a pre-trial.
