Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has lauded the government's move to go digital.
Revealing milestones achieved, Koskei on Tuesday revealed that since government services became available on e-citizen, the state has been generating Sh281 million daily in revenue.
"So far, 250 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are fully onboard the e-Citizen, offering over 16,000 government services, up from 397 in June 2022, generating Sh281 million in daily revenue," he said in a statement.
e-Citizen is a platform that allows Kenyans to access government services such as the renewal of driving licenses, application of passports and business registration services.
The Chief of Staff noted that with full compliance, daily revenue will surpass the Sh1 billion daily target.
In addition, Koseki called on the government institutions that are still operating paybills and till numbers other than 222222 to close them down as per the Presidential Directive.
Last December, the government announced that all payments for government services shall be made through the e-citizen portal.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u gazetted the portal to be the official government digital payment platform.
All payments for government services are progressively made through eCitizen.go.ke.
The official government pay bill number is 222222.
President Ruto said Kenyans should be able to pay for government services from the comfort of their homes without necessarily going to places physically.
He said digitisation is already making huge strides to seal loopholes in matters collecting tax.
Government payments going digital is a step aimed at increasing revenue collection, minimising the cost of collection and enhancing service delivery.
President Ruto announced that by June 2023, 5,000 out of 7,000 government services should be digitised.
In June, President William Ruto directed that more than 1,000 Paybill numbers used for the collection of payments for government services be shut down within the next 90 days.
The Head of State noted that Kenyans will only use the PayBill number, 222222, to pay for government services.
In August, Ruto had directed that all Government agencies be advised to use the only official government pay bill 222222.
He explained that it was for efficiency to use one paybill so that no data is lost.
Similarly, all ministries, state departments and agencies are required to give a status update on the onboarding of all government services to e-Citizen ahead of the September 30, deadline.
