CJ Koome meets Denmark Ambassador Schønemann, discuss Judiciary reforms

Chief Justice Martha Koome on Tuesday held talks with the Ambassador of Denmark Stephen Schønemann.

The two talked about how to strengthen the existing collaboration between Kenya and Denmark in advancing the Judiciary's reforms.

Following the meeting, Koome announced that the Judiciary is set to launch its 10-year strategic blueprint 'Social Transformation through Access to Justice (STAJ)'.

She noted that the plan has embraced people-centred justice and invited support for its implementation.

"We invite continued partnerships to support the effective implementation of programs, strategies and initiatives outlined in the Blueprint, which are geared to make the justice system accessible, expeditious, efficient and responsive to the needs of Kenyans," she said.

According to the Judiciary, the STAJ is borne out of the reality that justice is cross-cutting, broad and multi-faceted.

In that justice is a natural desire, a legitimate expectation of every citizen is to be treated justly.

STAJ intends to achieve a strong, independent, accessible and efficient Judiciary that protects the rights of all and especially the vulnerable.

It also aims at having an inspired team of Judges, Judicial officers, and Judiciary Staff committed to excellence in the delivery of justice.

"The vision is intended to achieve strengthened financial mechanisms that support the independence and Integrity of the Judiciary," the judiciary adds.

STAJ also looks to deepen partnerships that enhance coordination in the administration of justice and create enhanced public trust and confidence in the judicial system.
