UDA lawmakers and officials from Uasin Gishu county have asked Kenyans to be patient with President William Ruto as the government deals with the bad economic situation in the country.

The leaders from Ruto’s home county insisted that there was hope of a full economic recovery and reduced cost of living within the next two years.

The leaders spoke at a county sensitisation forum for UDA in Eldoret where officials trained members on the forthcoming party elections set for December 9.

They included Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, his Moiben counterpart Phyllis Bartoo, nominated MP Joseph Wainaina, and UDA regional manager Paul Kiprop among other officials.

“It’s true the cost of living is very high and the economy is not good. But we urge Kenyans to be patient for a short while because President Ruto is on top of things. He will fix the economy by the end of next year,” Sudi said.

He said Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza team found the economy in tatters but the President was working day and night to rectify the situation. Sudi said the frequent trips by the President outside the county are all in efforts to fix the economy.

“President Ruto is trying so hard to revive the economy. He thinks so hard day and night to the extent that he is now growing bald and ageing just because he wants to make Kenya a stable country. Let’s be patient with him,” Sudi said.

Bartoo said the last one year was hard for President Ruto and he should be given time to fix the mess he found in government when he took over last year.

“This government is like a baby who was born recently and it will take time for the baby to start walking and get moving on his or her own”, said Bartoo. The same sentiments were echoed by Wainaina, who said Kenyans should have hope and faith in Ruto.

Kiprop said they would work to build a stronger UDA party that would remain great even after President Ruto’s reign. He said that through the forthcoming elections the party would come out  stronger.

“We assure our members of free and fair elections and we will also accommodate all newcomers,” Kiprop said.

Sudi said he was one of the founders of UDA and they would ensure it grows to the levels of the ANC party of South Africa and the NRM movement in Uganda.

“We are after having a very powerful party that will have a say in how the county is governed,” Sudi said.

The party also held a similar sensitisation forum in Nandi county.
