This post shared on X (formerly Twitter), with a photo supposedly of a flooded road in Kenya’s capital Nairobi, is FALSE.
The image shows cars submerged on the road after what seems to have been a heavy downpour that disrupted transport activities.
“Where are the boats which Johnson Sakaja bought? Nairobi is flooded yet someone pocketed El Nino money! Time to prepare for Babu Owino in 2027,” read the post accompanying the photo.
With different parts of Kenya experiencing heavy rainfall The Star fact-checker proceeded to find out whether the photo depicted the real situation in Nairobi.
Google reverse image search results on the photo established that it was taken in Mombasa and not Nairobi, Kenya.
The reverse search results also led the fact checker to a video published on the nation.africa website indicating that the scenario happened on the Makupa bridge in Mombasa.
NTV Kenya also published watermarked images of the same indicating that they captured it firsthand.
Drawing from the information above the fact checker established that the post on X with an image supposedly of a flooded road in Nairobi, Kenya, is FALSE.
