Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is continuous skin to skin contact between baby and parent for at least 8 hours a day.
According to the latest WHO recommendations, KMC should be started immediately after birth, unless the newborn requires mechanical ventilation, is in shock or requires resuscitation.
If the mother cannot provide KMC immediately after birth, other members of the family can support her by providing skin-to-skin contact.
