President William Ruto Wednesday presided over the official opening of the Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) microbiology laboratory in Machakos.
The private facility was constructed at a cost of Sh100 million.
MEDS is a faith-based non-profit organization established in 1986.
Through its wet laboratory, it has also only been conducting physical chemical testing which is checking whether all the pharmaceutical supplies meets the requirements in terms of active ingredients.
The commissioning now means the facility will be able to do sterility testing by membrane filtration, growth promotion test of microbiological media and microbiological assays.
It will also perform bacterial endotoxin testing, microbial limit testing and bioburden testing among other tests.
