Two dead as preacher's car is swept away by floods in Makueni

A Reverend and his passenger were on Saturday night swept by raging waters while attempting to cross a river at Kalamba in Makueni County.

The late Reverend Joseph Kimosi Mbalya aged 63 years is believed to have ministered at Maumba AIC -Kalamba DCC. He retired three years ago.

Nzaui District County Commissioner Timothy Tirop said that the two were crossing River Ivoesyo which is between Muani and Upendo at midnight when the tragedy happened.

"The Reverend and his passenger who is yet to be identified waited till midnight and decided to cross the river when they were swept away," said Tirop.

According to the eyewitness the preacher and others had decided to sleep in their cars when the river started swelling and it is believed that the Pastor woke from sleep and accidentally drove into the river.

The preacher's body was found inside the car.

"We have gotten the body of Reverend. We are waiting for police from Emali to pick up the body and start the search for the other passenger," said the area Chief Harrison Mutuku.

He urged people to be cautious during this period.
