Machakos policeman found dead in trench with stab wounds
Detectives are investigating the murder of a police officer whose body was found in a trench in Athi River, Machakos County.
Officials said the slain officer had gone to a nearby shop from his workstation never to return.
According to police, the 58-year-old officer was last seen leaving his station at around 9 pm on Thursday.
He was due to retire in a year, his colleagues said and described him as a humble and dedicated officer.
His body was found Saturday morning. The cause or motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said.
Other officials said he was targeted in the incident.
Police said the officer was attacked and killed at the scene.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
M-Pesa attendant attacked, robbed Sh200,000 in Siaya
Detectives are investigating an incident in which a M-Pesa attendant was trailed and robbed of Sh200,000 in Ukwala, Siaya.
The victim told police he was heading home from his M-Pesa shop aboard his motorcycle when a gang of three on another motorcycle trailed him.
The incident happened on Wednesday night.
The victim had left the Ukwala shopping centre and was headed to Uwai village in the area.
As he raced to his home he was attacked from behind where he lost control of the motorcycle and landed into a ditch.
The gang seemed to be aware he was carrying the cash, police said.
They grabbed the cash, his motorcycle and a bag with personal valuables before fleeing the scene.
He was injured following the fall.
The victim was rushed to Ukwala Matibabu Hospital where he was treated and discharged in a fair condition, police said.
Detectives are camping in the area in search of the gang.
Policeman accidentally shoots himself dead at police armory in Turbo, Uasin Gishu
This week, a police officer accidentally shot himself dead at the Kipkaren River police station in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County.
Corporal Peter Muchemi who had been on duty on Wednesday was returning his weapon- an AK47 rifle to the armoury steal box when he shot himself in the head, police said.
The incident happened at about 10 am on Wednesday causing anguish among his colleagues.
Preliminary information from the fellow police officers at Kipkaren River police station where the deceased officer was based, indicated that he had requested for permission from the Officer Commanding Station to leave for Eldoret for a private matter.
He then left for the armory to return his weapon when in a hurry, removed the magazine while one round of ammunition was in the chamber.
According to police, he accidentally tapped the trigger which discharged the fatal bullet.
The bullet hit him on the lower jaw exiting at the upper part of the back of his head.
The force burst his head as it happened at close range and the weapon involved was of high calibre, witnesses said.
He died on the spot as his colleagues rushed there only to find his body in a pool of blood.
His weapon and the magazine he had removed were collected from where the body lay.

Policeman dies by suicide at Mandera border post
A police constable died by suicide at his place of work in Mandera border police post, Mandera County
The body of constable Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim was discovered Wednesday afternoon behind a latrine block within the compound of Kenya Revenue Authority residence.
His body was found in a sitting position with a bullet wound under his chin and had exited the left ear.
It is suspected the officer shot himself using his AK47 rifle that was found next to the body.
The motive of the incident is yet to be known.
The rifle had 29 bullets at that time. There was also a spent cartridge and two full magazines each loaded with 30 bullets.
This indicated he spent one cartridge in ending his life, police said.
It is not clear when the officer died. Police moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
A team of detectives was set up to investigate the suicide.
Unexploded RPG sends shivers in village in Lafey, Mandera County
Multi-agency teams are investigating the origin of an unexploded Rocket Propelled Grenade in a village in Lafey, Mandera County.
The ordinance was discovered by a herder grazing his animals in the Jabibar area, police said.
It seemed to have been at the scene for a few days as it was rusting.
The scene was secured and experts called to detonate it even as the probe went on.
It is believed the explosive was launched but failed to explode on its unknown target.
