In Summary

  • So, our party views as Azimio la Umoja are reflected in the report.
  • But, we do not want to stop talking about the cost of living; we shall continue talking about it.
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi

We recently met as Azimio members for our Parliamentary Group meeting and all the parties within the coalition, which are represented in Parliament were present.

Part of the agenda of the meeting was to deliberate on the report released by the National Dialogue Committee.

We arrived at a decision that the cost of living is a problem and the problem has been created by Kenya Kwanza and not Azimio la Umoja.

This is, therefore, to say the Azimio Parliamentary Group is the right organ to make decisions.

It is our view that we had done one our bit in pushing for the matter to be addressed during the dialogue process.

In fact, we gave our presentations in the team but our team was pushed for a number of things, which instead were not for discussion.

The Kenya Kwanza team flatly rejected it saying they are the government, they are in the government and they have the mandate of dealing with the cost of living, so that is the position.

Luckily, the engagement agreement provided that where there is a disagreement, each party’s views will be reflected in the report.

So, our party views as Azimio la Umoja are reflected in the report.

We do not want to appeal to say that Azimio should solve the cost of living problem, we are not the government and the so-called government is adamant, so let the country know.

But, we do not want to stop talking about the cost of living; we shall continue talking about it.

The issue of positions- the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, opposition leader and gender rule- the two-thirds gender rule was also not on the agenda, it was brought up by Kenya Kwanza.

Those were their demands not ours and so what we are saying is if they want those changes, then let us go to the referendum.
