List of areas scheduled for power interruption Wednesday

In Nairobi, residents around Lang'ata and adjacent areas will be affected.

Several parts of the country will go without power supply on Wednesday due to a scheduled systems repair, Kenya Power announced Tuesday night.

Areas to be affected include Lang'ata in Nairobi, Lessos and Maridadi in Trans Nzoia, Ogembo, Riosiri and Tabaka in Kisii County and parts of Nyeri County around Kiriani and Kamune.

Others are Gachatha and Kariguini still within Nyeri County and Ichuga and Ngarariga in Laikipia County.

In Langa'ta, areas to be affected by the scheduled interruption include T Mall, Moi Educational Centre, Texas Cancer Centre, part of Mbagathi Road, Nairobi West Prison, Strathmore University, Uhuru Gardens and adjacent customers around the areas mentioned.

The interruption will occur from 9am to 5pm.

In Trans Nzoia, residents around Lessos, Maridadi, Kapsitwet, Kobos, Mile 11, Kwanza, Kolongolo, ADC Orchards and the adjacent areas will also go without power between 9am and 3pm.

In Kisii County, areas around Ogembo market, Nyabisiongoroi, Ikoba market, part of Tabaka Complex, Nyamarambe, Riosiri, Nduru Boys, Gesono, Nyanko Fisheries, ‘Nyabigena and the adjacent areas will be without power from 9pm to 4pm.

Areas to be affected in Laikipia County include Ichuga, Tigers, Kwa Huku, Nalanya, Jogi, Gathiuru, Ragati, Toll, Buens Lugar, Kihato, Matanya, Lamuria, Withare where power has been scheduled to be interrupted from 8am to 4pm.

In Nyeri, the power supply is scheduled to be interrupted from 8am to 5pm around Gatugi market, Kiriaini Town, Munaini DC’s office, Kamacharia, and around several markets including Kagumoini, Kanjama, Kora, Kamune, Iruri, Thuita, Geitwa, Kariki, Giathugu Iruri, Mairo and the adjacent customers.

Another interruption scheduled for 9am to 5pm will affect Kihora, Gachatha, MBaaini, Machaku, Wamagana, Kariguini, Kwa Joseph and adjacent customers.

According to Kenya Power, occasional service interruptions are necessary to allow crews to safely conduct maintenance or repair work.

"We try to schedule these repairs at the least inconvenient times for you and keep them to a minimum. Whenever possible, we provide you with prior notice before we interrupt service, hence the list of areas that will be affected by power outages," the company states on its website.

In the absence of planned service interruption, extreme weather like high winds, lightning, rain or flooding is mostly the cause of unintentional power outages.

"During a storm, power poles are vulnerable to lightning strikes while strong winds can snap off tree branches and down power lines," the company says.
