Rains to continue pounding Rift Valley, Nyanza and Western

The weatherman says isolated storms are likely to accompany the rains in some areas.

Heavy rains that have rendered roads impassable in large parts of Northeastern are expected to subside in the coming week, the latest forecast shows.

The seven-day forecast released by the Metrological Department on Tuesday, however, indicates that heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands and the Coast.

These include Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties.

"Heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of Kakamega, Vihiga, Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii and Narok counties," the weatherman said.

The forecast for the period between December 5 and 11 shows that the heavy rainfall will be accompanied by isolated storms.

However, morning rains afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over several places which will pave the way for night showers.

"Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya are likely to be generally dry," the weatherman said.

Northwestern which comprises the counties of Turkana and Samburu will experience sunny days and partly cloudy nights.

Counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo which lie in the Northeastern region are likely to experience sunny days and partly cloudy nights while occasional afternoon showers may occur over the southern part of Garissa County during the first half of the forecast period.

Meanwhile, highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi will experience occasional morning showers over a few places with afternoon and night showers thereafter.

"Some parts of Murang’a, Nyeri, Kiambu, Tharaka Nithi, Embu and Meru counties may receive heavy rainfall," the forecast shows.

Southeastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties) will experience occasional morning rains and afternoon and night showers over a few places.

"Heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of Makueni, Kitui and Taita Taveta Counties," the weatherman said.

Meanwhile, morning and afternoon showers that will likely spread into the night are expected at the Coast in Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties.

 "High average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced over much of the Coast, Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya," the weatherman said.

"Some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley will experience low average night-time (minimum) temperatures of less than 10°C."
