A 28-year-old man drowned while swimming in a pool of a hotel in Diani, Kwale.
Police said the tragic incident happened on December 4.
It is not yet clear if the deceased knew how to swim before he ventured into the swimming pool.
The deceased worked with a mobile phone company.
He and his colleagues had booked at the hotel when he decided to go for the swimming sessions.
He later drowned and was rescued and rushed to Diani Beach Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police visited the scene and took the body to the mortuary.
Police said an investigation had been opened into the tragedy.
The police want to know if there were safety marshalls at the poolside at the time of the incident.
They want to establish if the drowning was accidental.
Elsewhere in Mbeere, Embu County, one Sharon Karimi drowned as she washed clothes on the banks of River Rupingazi, police said.
Her shoes, clothes, and basins she had carried were recovered at the river bank.
Police said efforts to trace her proved futile. The body has not been recovered following the incident.
In Taita Taveta’s Msau Mvita bridge, two pillion passengers drowned as they tried to cross the area.
Efforts to trace and retrieve the bodies are ongoing, police said.
Floods out of heavy rains experienced in the country have killed more than 160 people and displaced more than 100,000 others.
Dozens of others are missing following the incidents.
Efforts are being made to address the catastrophe, officials say.
