A boy aged eight drowned in a pool of water as he played with other friends in Ikombe, Matuu, Machakos County.
The Grade Two pupil was in the company of other children swimming at an open quarry full of water within the area when he drowned on Thursday, police said.
The body was retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
Authorities have urged for caution from all given most rivers, quarries and other dams are full of water following heavy rains.
Killed by a tree
Elsewhere, a man was killed by a tree he was cutting in Hardy, Nairobi.
Three men had been hired to help cut trees at a private compound on Thursday when the incident happened.
One of the branches fell on one David Macharia on the head killing him, police said.
The incident happened in Milima area as the workers used a power saw to chop the trees, witnesses and police said.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
Abortion probe
And police are investigating an incident in which a 21-year-old student died as she tried an abortion in the Landmawe area, Nairobi.
The student at a private college had been complaining of a stomachache, police and witnesses said.
Later on, she started bleeding profusely and was rushed to Nairobi West Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body which had no visible injuries was moved to the said facility morgue pending postmortem.
It was later established the deceased passed on as a result of procuring an abortion.
