A pastor, whose church was scheduled to host a wedding which was cancelled last minute in Bomet County, has denied claims that the two lovers had differences.

Kapsoyo AGC Pastor Clement Chalulot said that the allegations which are being peddled are false as the two are in talks and are waiting for a date so that they exchange their marriage vows.

Chalulot said that due to unavoided circumstances, the wedding was put off until all the parties met all the requirements as required by the law.

“As the chairman of the committee tasked to conduct the wedding for Amos Rono and Nelly Chebet, we were almost winding up everything until Thursday when we received a phone call from the presiding reverend that the wedding would not take place on Saturday because there were things which have not be completed to give way for the ceremony,” said Chalulot.

The news of the wedding went viral on the social media forums on Saturday with Kenyans giving different views following the cancellations.

But Chalulot said that once they realized that, they prompted a meeting between the two families on Friday and explained to them the current situation and they were all in agreement on the postponement of the wedding to a new date.

“The two families had no issues with each other and now they need to complete the process so that the marriage event can continue," said the clergy.

He said that they had already raised Sh300,000 for the ceremony and had only used Sh50,000 before they received the news of the postponement.

Chebet, the bride, clarified that the much-anticipated wedding was only postponed because the marriage permit is still valid until February.

“The presiding reverend advised us to push forward the wedding to a later date but not to cancel it completely as alleged by most of the people,” she said.

She spoke to the journalists in her home in Kapletundo ward in Bomet central sub-county in the company of his father Rev Charles Kosgey.

She said they had been preparing for the wedding for the last two months and had gone to the extent of forming WhatsApp to assist in the preparations.

“As of Monday, we are waiting for communication from the church so that we can see how far the process of the occasion is,” she noted.

Amos, on the other hand, failed to respond to our calls.

Kosgey, who is a pastor at Chebirbelek AGC, said he was called by the area director of the Tenwek region and informed that the wedding had been postponed because the two lovers had only known each other for only six months

“The two young people needed to have undergone guidance and counselling on marriage during the courtship period before tying the knot,” said Kosgey.

He said that he had already received the dowry from the bridegroom's family as a way of appreciating his daughter and expressed optimism that the wedding would be done very soon.

“The postponement has left us as a family in despair and destruction because we were ready for my daughter’s big day and had mobilized more than 100 people to attend the wedding ceremony,” she said.

He called for the need to have pre-marital counselling for all the youths before embarking on the journey of marriage life.
